Kickoff Meeting on January 5th in Columbus

On January 5th twenty members of PNHP and other supporters met at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Columbus. After brief introductions, we agreed to create a our own statewide chapter for Ohio and signed the paperwork needed to form an official state chapter.

We agreed to six initial actions:
1) We will adopt the mission statement of the national organization (see pnhp.org)
2) We will work to increase the Ohio Congressional endorsers of HR 676 the national single payer bill intoduced by Conyers and Kucinich.
3) We will continue to educate our colleagues, our students, and the public about the advantages of single payer reform.
4) We will recruit new Ohio members to PNHP.
5) We will work in coalition with other health advocacy organizations in Ohio toward the goal of passage of HR 676.
6) We will monitor health reform advocacy efforts in Ohio and respond to erroneous, misguided and misleading information and policy proposals.

The original founders of PNHP Ohio will form our initial steering committee for PNHP Ohio. We will work toward creating by laws and governing structure for our future work. We were offered space on the website of Healthcare for All Ohio and will work toward creating a web page at their site in addition to this blog.
